Free initial consultation

For clients in Dunedin and the surrounding area there's no charge to visit you, take a look at the site, go over some ideas and discuss what you want to achieve. If you're not local, it doesn't matter. You can still have a unique planting plan for your garden.

Conceptual garden plans

Especially useful for residential clients.

Got a blank canvass section - don't know where to begin?

A master plan will break up the area, skipping over finer details to instead concentrate on defining how the space will be used, identifying functional areas, aesthetics, form and how the planting fits into the overall scheme. You can even choose your favourite from several potential designs.

Detailed planting plans

Taking into account site conditions, soils, aspect, exposure and most importantly your tastes, planting plans and schedules will be crafted. These are detailed working documents drawn up to your specifications to show the plants to be used, positioning and planting / cultivation requirements.

I specialise in producing web-based planting plans which enable clients to interactively view pictures of plants within the design.

Sourcing plants
NZ native plants. Click here to view my photo database.

It is very frustrating to have a planting plan filled with lovely plants you cannot find at local nurseries. I spent 5 years as a nurseryman trying to source impossible orders and solve this problem for clients.

Subsequently I am always keen to take you beyond the design phase into the practicalities of implementing each planting scheme.

This can involve sourcing all trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants whilst giving you a detailed breakdown of prices and budget options.

Good hard landscaping design is essential to get the most from your garden. I will....

  • Select the right materials to construct pathways, steps, walls, raised planters and decks.
  • Provide construction drawings and cost estimates.
  • Implement the landscaping or sub-contract to builders for very large projects.

With the landscaping completed we're ready for the best bit - the plants!

Although some clients like to do this themselves, I always love to be involved in the final planting stage and can personally arrange delivery, planting and installation of all mulches / decorative features according to my design.

Maintenance and aftercare

A freshly planted design looks great, but with time and care it can only get better as it matures...

This is why I offer a free aftercare consultation visit to local Dunedin clients. Take the opportunity to ask for horticultural advice regarding the planting's development, pruning or maintenance.
